Supplies for Creating DIY Handprints on Wood
rustic wood pallets
white acrylic paint
clear acrylic coat to protect the prints
foam paint brush
vinyl cutter (or you can use a paint pen if you trust your own handwriting skills)
Directions for DIY Kids Handprints on Wood
Step 1 | Clean Hands
Clean off little hands and make sure they are clear of any grime!
Step 2 | Pour and Paint On
Pour the paint into a paper plate. I recommend painting on the paint rather than dipping to make sure you get the paint on it.
Step 3 | Press Their Hands On Wood
Slowly press their hands down on the wood. Make sure you lift their hands carefully so you don't smudge the handprint. This might be hard if your surface is rough like mine, so make sure you press down for at least five seconds with a little bit of pressure.
This might be hard if you have a two year old as well when you tell them to spread their fingers! You might practice on paper.
Step 4 | Draw On Your Phrase
You can put just about anything - the year, a cute saying, the family name - I wanted to put "let them be little." Since I didn't trust my handwriting, I used a cutting machine to make a stencil and paint over it. If you want to try the pen route, check out my other tutorial on how to write on pallet wood with a paint pen.
Slowly, lift the vinyl once you are done painting over it.
Step 5 | Clear Coat this Handprints on Woods Crafts
As a totally optional step, you can add a clear acrylic coat to protect the prints. Let it dry overnight.
Step 6 | Gift your Handprints on Wood Project
Now you can either hang it on your wall or gift it to the grandmother in your life! Pair it with a beautiful Hallmark Signature card and you are on your way to the top of their list!
This handprints on wood craft is a beautiful keepsake that any mother or grandmother would cherish. It can be passed down from generation to generation! Check out additional Mother's Day inspiration ideas Mother's Day inspiration at Walmart with Hallmark greeting cards.

I have a sealed cutting board that I can putting handprints on. I used kids craft paint and it peeled up. Will an acrylic paint work better? Is that safe to put on kids hands?
