I'm sharing with you some tips and tricks on how to involve kids decorating for Christmas (and still make your house look amazingly coordinated).

Can you believe Christmas is just around the corner? I am one of those that puts my Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving. Don't judge. My kids LOVE that we do this!

What is your family Christmas Tradition?

One of our holiday traditions that they have already started asking about is getting annual ornaments for our tree. We also paint their little hands on the Christmas tree skirt. This is what the holidays are made of!

I stopped at Big Lots to pick up some new items for my Christmas home decor collection. They always have quality, name brand items at a great value. This year and last, they had woodland themed Christmas decorations, which is awesome considering I love neutrals and rustic style decor! Whether you are looking for small and large scale items, Big Lots should be one of your first stops!

Today, I'm sharing with you on how I decorate the buffet that sits in our great room with our kids helping. I love getting them involved in Christmas decorating. Believe it or not, children can provide some spectacular ideas when you get into a decorating slump. Here are 4 tips to get you started on getting your kids to help you decorate!

Allow Kids to Pick Out a Few Christmas Decor Items

    1. Let them pick out a few items to add to the decor collection.  Sometimes, you may have to say no. But sometimes, kind of like clothing, you just have to go with it and try it on. My kids picked out this woodland owl, and I think it is perfect for our buffet decor.

It completely matched the neutral, rustic vibe I was going for.

I told them that I also wanted something neutral and white, and they chose this deer with a cute wreath!

    2. Tell them to think outside the box. When you tell them to use their imagination or think outside the box on how they can incorporate decor in non-traditional ways, they can surprise you! For example, my girls used this extra large ornament ball to just sit on top of a garland. It looked really great!

They also told me that I was missing something on our faux chalkboard frame. So we added a few stems we found at Big Lots and used heavy duty tape to hold them down. Can you tell?

It definitely added a little more "umph" to the frame!

    3. Ask them for colors they think are missing. My kids told me it needed more red for Christmas! So we got a bow to liven up the space to add a little more holiday charm.

    4. Have  kids critique your space. Be forewarned, they are very truthful. After a few changes, my girls were finally happy with our set up!
