Is it safe to cut into an Ikea Linnmon table? The short answer is yes. However, you have to be initially careful cutting into it and cognizant of what it is made of inside.
If I had to describe the inside of the Ikea Linnmon tables, outside they are made of laminate and inside they are made of heavy particle board with beehive structure.
Initially, I was afraid of drilling into particle board and somehow cracking the table. Since the Ikea Linnmon table was under $30, I was willing to take a chance. And I'm glad I did because this technique for drilling a hole worked perfectly. I've added a few steps that you may not see in the video that looking back, I would have done differently.
For my scrapbooking and craft room, I wanted to drill grommet holes into the three Ikea Linnmon tables that I positioned together to make a large working table.
I wanted to have a hole that I could fish the electrical outlets through because I wanted my three Ikea Linnmon tables to be all perfectly edged together.

Directions for How to Drill a Hole in an Ikea Linnmon Table
Step 1 | Figure Out Where the Hole Should Go
Figure out where you want the hole. Make sure that you account for the lip of the grommet so that the position of your hole is located with enough room to spare to the edge.
Step 2 | Prepare your Ikea Linnmon Table
Flip the table to the underside, as you will be starting from the underside.
Step 3 (Optional) | Painter's Tape
Put a piece of painters tape on the area that you will be positioning the drill over.
Step 4 | Use the Hole Saw to Drill into your IkeaLinnmon Table
Connect the hole saw to your drill.
Start drilling, once you commit - you should try to go all the way through. For us, our hole saw only went 2/3 of the way through the table.
Step 5 | Flip the Ikea Linnmon Table
To figure out where to line the hole saw on the other side, you need to change to the drill bit and drill a hole in the middle of the circle you just cut. Flip the table and line up your hole saw so it is center with the hole you just made.
Step 6 | Add Your Grommet
Once cut, add your grommet that you can find off of Amazon.
