Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore is one of my FAVORITE paint colors. It is a favorite wall color because it’s classic and literally the best grey. Here’s why this is a popular choice amongst home owners and everything you want to know about how BM Revere Pewter looks as a greige!
I used Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter in my beloved craft room – specifically, Ben Moore Revere Pewter HC-172. I wanted the room to be a neutral color because I was planning on decorating around it with colorful art that the kids made. There is a reason why Revere Pewter has been one of Benjamin Moore’s most popular paint colors – it’s versatility and ability to go with pretty much every piece of furniture you can think of.
Initially, I was overly cautious this time about choosing a gray because the last time I chose one, it had a light blue tint that I didn’t expect. In that experience, I learned to always buy samples and put them on your wall to test! $20 in sample paint cans can save you a lot of time and heartache. I’m a huge advocate on splurging on paint samples because of our journey of finding the perfect grey for our home.
In my own experience, Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter has the most perfect neutral undertones in most lighting situations. It is a very light, warm gray.
What Makes BM Revere Pewter Paint Color So Popular
Revere Pewter is a designer and crowd favorite because it is just so versatile. It has warmth to it and is just the most perfect, airy gray! I think it’s the most consistent grey in varying lights, which is a huge win. Consistency of a paint color, especially when you are trying to use a common paint color in your public spaces, is really important because when you transition from room to room with varying lighting, you don’t want it to seem like your rooms are different colors.
It literally complements pretty much every curtain color and sofa color you can imagine. That’s why it is so popular.
The color swatch below IS NOT indicative of the color of your wall, I guarantee it. I hate looking at samples on computer screens because they really are completely off. You need to see it on a wall, and I’m going to show you that!
Who Makes Revere Pewter Paint
Revere Pewter is made by Benjamin Moore. It’s been one of the most popular greige paint colors in their line up for the last decade.
Who Sells the Benjamin Moore Line
Guys, I’ve been trying to find a consistent retailer for Benjamin Moore. Every freaking time I go to paint and need the BM brand, I have to drive over 30 miles to go find a retailer. Benjamin Moore does have their own stores in certain parts of the United States.
I’ve found luck finding Benjamin Moore at Ace Hardware’s. However, I have three Ace Hardware’s within a 30 mile radius, and only ONE of them carries the line.
Here’s a store locator to help find one nearest you. I hope you have better luck finding a retailer that has Benjamin Moore paint line close to you! Otherwise, you can color match (disclaimer below).
Sampling Revere Pewter First
Even after reading my review of Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, I would HIGHLY suggest getting samples because paint can look very different on walls due to lighting.
Before having our third child, I had an extra spare bedroom that I was turning into a photography studio. I needed VERY neutral walls with no undertones. I SHOULD have purchased paint samples, but I didn’t. We read reviews online about Gray Owl, and decided to purchase without putting any up on our walls. Big mistake.
It turned out to have blue undertones. In the end, it actually worked out great because our third child came and the nursery needed blue undertones (after shifting it from a photography studio to a nursery).
We purchased Gray Owl not having painted it on our walls, and that turned out to be a huge mistake.
What color is pewter paint color anyway?
Most describe pewter as a shade that is between silver and deep gray, both neutral colors. Revere part, I have no idea how they got their name. But I would say it is spot on in terms of being a pewter paint.
Behr Revere Pewter – Marquee Paint & Primer
You can ALWAYS try to color match if you don’t have a store near you. I’ve heard mixed reviews that the white bases have different shades prior to the tint being mixed. The subtlety in color can cause a drastic difference in shade color with light warm greys.
I will say that I did color match at one point Revere Pewter using the Behr Marquee Paint & Primer line and had an absolute great match!
What Does Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter Look Like
As you can see in my craft room photos, it has a warm undertone! This is with a neutral craft room light turned on.
Do NOT just look at the swatches online. The photos do NOT look like what it does in real life. I feel like the images online of the sample look more brown than they do grey. Revere Pewter has a true grey tone to it.
It doesn’t change colors in spaces with varying light which is why I would LOVE to have this in all the open spaces in my home if we were to ever paint again.
BM Revere Pewter with Grey or White Carpet
I actually painted our craft room walls BEFORE we replaced the carpet with Air.o carpet. Here’s an image of it with the darker taupe colored carpet:
Now, I have a neutral white carpet on our craft room floors with white trim.
It looks great in there with it! I needed my craft room to be bright, yet be able to hang colorful art from the kids on the walls!
I really needed a neutral color and at the end, I WISH I had started with Revere Pewter in some of the main foyer areas. It is seriously such a beautiful and neutral color.
What undertones does Revere Pewter have?
It is a light gray with warm undertones. Benjamin Moore states on their site that it is a great transitional color for any room. I tend to agree!
What trim colors go with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter?
Seriously, Revere Pewter is so neutral, that any traditional trim color (oak, white or greige) would look stunning with it.
Is Revere Pewter Gray, Beige, or Greige?
I don’t think Benjamin Moore would classify Revere Pewter as a greige at all. However, some disagree and call it a warm greige. I call it the perfect grey.
Why I Love Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter
I picked an eggshell finish on my walls with the color because it was going in a craft room. I didn’t want it shiny, so the finish was perfect!
I know from experience that it is super tough to pick a good gray color because they can have a tint if the light hits it just right.
Should I Use Revere Pewter or Gray Owl?
Pick Revere Pewter. Trust me on this one.
Revere Pewter Coordinating Colors
Honestly, this is going to be my lazy answer: Revere Pewter pretty much goes with everything. Enough said? Have I used the word versatile yet?
Craft Room with Revere Pewter
I wanted my craft room to have neutral walls because we were going to decorate with tons of colors from the spool of thread, amazing artwork from the kiddos and displays of craft supplies! I love having this color tone on my walls for a craft room.
I will say that at one point, I did want it to be mint. But I feel like the gray walls will require me to not have to repaint again when the trend dies!
Supplies for Your Next Painting Project
In the last five years, we’ve painted almost all the rooms in our house. Here are awesome tools that we loved that made a tedious job a whole heck of a lot easier:
- High end brushes are worth their weight and gold. It makes it easy for the paint to cut in. This brand and this brand are our favorite brushes. Yes, they are $10 a pop, but if you take care of it, it will last you through multiple projects.
- Don’t skimp on taping. We use this tape religiously.
