Craft Room Makeover Reveal - Phase 2 - New Floor Progress with Hypoallergenic Options to Carpet | Air.o Unified Soft Flooring

Updated on Oct 25, 2025 by Seng. This post may contain affiliate links, please see our policy for details.

This post was sponsored by Mohawk Flooring Air.o Unified Soft Flooring (USF). All opinions and excitement are my own.

As the second phase of my craft room reveal, I wanted to share with you the flooring reveal for the craft room.

The previous carpet was a darker shaded carpet that was installed by the previous owners of the home.

Here's what it looked like when we started in the craft room. You can see the shade of our previous carpet underneath the built-ins.

We then ripped out the built-ins. Yes, I know some of you may be wondering why I would rip out these beautiful cabinets. It's because they made the room way darker and didn't fit my "crafting workflow".

We installed some of the cabinet framing after ripping it out. Below, you can see the previous flooring:

Since we were remodeling our craft room, a room that both my kids and I frequent, I wanted to re-floor it, but I wanted to make sure I picked the right flooring from both a design and durability standpoint. This same flooring would have to be used in our playroom for the kids. In both rooms, I know there will be times that I will probably need to remove accidental spills of an assortment of crafting supplies or snacking spills, so I wanted to make sure that the flooring would accommodate the occasional mess.

When I'm working in my craft room, what I'm looking for is comfort. I wanted an option that would provide both the luxury of beautiful flooring and functionality for creative minds to be free to explore. After some research, I found that Mohawk Flooring Air.o Unified Soft Flooring (USF) met all of these needs!

For a craft room, here were some of the considerations that came to mind knowing that my room needed to be created for a kid-friendly space as well.

Installation smell. I hate the new carpet smell when it's initially installed. Because Air.o is latex, VOC-free and odor free, there's no new flooring smell.

Allergies. I wanted hypoallergenic carpet that would be resistant to mildew and other allergens. Especially as my seven-month-old is about to crawl, I wanted to make sure that the flooring was as clean as possible in preparation for her milestone!

Cleaner clean. Mohawk Air.o provides amazingly superior airflow, which makes it easier for debris to be vacuumed up!

Recyclable. Air.o Unified Soft Flooring is the first 100% recyclable flooring!

Lighter color. I know I'm probably asking for it, but I wanted a lighter color for the room because I am, like you know, drawn to neutrals and I feel like a lighter color brightens up the room. The best thing about this is that Air.o's fibers and integrated cushions dry faster after spills or cleaning because they don't absorb moisture.
For both the playroom and craft room, we chose the gorgeous Mohawk Air.o in the color Nouveau and the style New Beginning II. I was so excited when Flooring and More came on installation day because they were ripping out the old, yucky carpet!

I was so excited when they installed it! I couldn't wait to get all of my desks and storage in. It definitely brightened up the room (along with the white cabinet and desks).

I just loved how it turned out!

My littles love it too! And I love how I don't have to worry about what was in the carpet from the previous owners!

I'm excited about our craft room progress. I can't wait to add in a little color to make it more fun and a place where the kids and I can create. We are one step closer in getting the house fully renovated.

Check out my post on why I loved this amazing gray paint that seriously goes with every piece of furniture here (it's the same paint I used for our craft room).
