If you are looking for some inspiration for a rustic luxe, farmhouse style nursery for your little boy, I'm sharing with you my reveal of my little boy's nursery.
It's time for the big nursery reveal! I've been holding off on posting this because its still NOT complete. But, I've come to conclusion that I will ALWAYS feel this way with every room. Every room in my house will always be a "work in progress". Sigh.
I once hired an interior designer who told me, "Wait to find a piece that SPEAKS to you." In my head, I thought, "okay crazy lady."
However, through time, I've learned that the fun of decorating a room is WAITING for the right piece to find YOU. I know that makes ME sound a little cray cray, but I'm trying to convince myself that collecting the pieces I love SHOULD take time (I've been watching a little too much HGTV).
These days, my motto is "don't buy it unless you TRULY love it".
Remember this mood board and post on baby boy's nursery inspiration that I created a few months back? Well, I held true to some of it!
For the wall color, I used Benjamin Moore Gray Owl because I love how neutral this paint really was and how it gives a little hint of a blue tone.
I present to you our baby boy nursery reveal:
The goal of this room was for baby boy to GROW with the room. The Woodland Triptych Wall Art was made by both the hubby and I. The arrow is actually a growth chart, which I will be sharing a DIY soon! If you look closely, you can see the numbers on the arrow.
Ryan and I had a heated "discussion" around decorating the kids rooms. He thinks they are going to want Frozen, Spiderman, and Ninja Turtle themed rooms. I told him the kids are going to love a classic room that they can grow up in. Secretly, I know he's right. But I'm not going to admit it.
Below is the Kallax Shelving Unit from Ikea laid on its side. Isn't it cute? I didn't like any of the baskets that Ikea had, but I found these woven milk crates from Target that fit the look I was going for (I might end up getting two more).
For the nursing chair, I decided to get the Hobart Chair by Best Chair. Its not a typical nursing chair like the one I have in Aubrey's room. In the event that as baby boy grows up and decides he doesn't want the chair in his room, I wanted to have a chair that I could incorporate somewhere else in the house. Also, if this chair didn't work well as a nursing chair, I could just steal the one in Aubrey's room.
And I know, I know. I got white. Again. I don't know what its going to take for me not to buy white furniture with toddlers, but I did get it with stain guard. I'm hoping that I won't ever have to use it.
The mini rocking chair is from My 1st Years which can be customized if you wanted it to be!
This nook still needs something for the wall. I have some ideas in mind, but nothing that I love so far. We also are waiting for a piece of wall art that "speaks to us" for this little nook. As you can see on my baby boy's Pinterest board, I have a few ideas. One of which is a large piece of art. I'm thinking possibly a woodland themed piece, monogram, or even a mirror.
A little story, the hubs has now made himself a miter saw table, and stated in so many words that he plans on making all of our furniture moving forward. Baby boy's room is still in need of a dresser. At his pace, it will be 2025 until I can showcase that. In all seriousness, it will probably be the later part of next year. Sigh. I'm hoping for a rustic, dark wooden dresser by 2017. We shall see.
I may end up putting some canvases of baby boy above the dresser once he gets it done.
I decided against not having a crib bumper (even though they are cute) per doctor's orders. But don't you love the polka dot crib sheet and wanderlust crib skirt? In love! Totally matches the theme of the room! The rug you see pictured is from RugsUSA and I think it just sets the design for the room! It holds true to the color on their website and is more beautiful in person.
I did want to show you one picture of how we arranged the room before settling for the ones pictured above. The crib was up against the wall:
In the picture above, you'll notice that I have yellow "yarn" around the drapery/curtains. That's because I was training them for about two weeks so that they could hold their form. Floor to ceiling drapery typically will not lay right (especially pleated ones) unless you train them. Otherwise, it will just look messy. Try it out yourself! Anyway, I'm on a tangent.
I like our new arrangement from the before image above because the drapes totally frames the crib and makes the room look a little more formal and together. Last year, I have been sold on spending a little extra money and buying quality hardware for drapes. Good quality drapes need the strength of the rod to hold its weight. In addition to that, they provide a subtle touch of elegance to the room. I love how the drapery hardware provides an understated look to the room!

Do you know the style or where I can get a similar one? Thanks!
Seng N
I got it at the At Home Decor store!
Daria
Hey I love the side table! Where can I get the same / similar one? Thanks!
Seng N
Thanks Karina. I'm sure there are safety concerns - especially as they grow older. I would place it far away enough where they can't reach.
Karina
Great nursery! are there any safety concerns with placing the crib against the window?

Hi Shawna!
Here's the link to the fabric I used: http://fave.co/2eJAGKK
I purchased the blanket from Pottery Barn, but it looks like they don't have it anymore. Here's a link to a similar one that has that color:

Hi. I love your nursery. I was wondering if you could give me some information on where you got the fabric for the drapes? I also love the color of the blanket you have on the chair. Any information where you found that? Thanks!!!

Hi Alexandria!
Thanks so much for the sweet words! We have shag carpet in that room (actually the entire house) and it doesn't move at all. We don't even have a rug pad underneath it. The rug is a 5 x 8 if I remember correctly, and so far so good. No movement 🙂 I have not seen it bulk or bulge at all. Its actually a pretty thick piece of rug (thicker than my living room rug!). Hope that helps!

Hi there! I found your post on Pinterest.com and I LOVE your nursery. I'm planning my own and wanted your tips on your rug and carpet combo. I want to achieve the same look and have a rug in mind. We are looking to replace the berber carpet in our nursery but I'm concerned with choosing plush carpeting which is ideal for babies. It works so well in your photos but is it practical? Do you use a rug/carpet pad to keep it in place? Does it bulked and bulge?

Thanks Cami so much for the kind words! I know...I hate buyers remorse 🙂 You live and you learn!

This is SO cute!!! I wish I had a chair like that in my baby girl's nursery! Oh and I love your motto, "don't buy it unless you truly love it." I'm the same way! I'm always much happier with the things I buy if I wait to find something that speaks to me... or like you said, wait for the perfect things to find me... If I get impatient and buy something that I like OK but isn't my fave then I usually end up regretting it 😉

Good luck! I know paint color is like the hardest thing cause it seems as though it makes the foundation of the room!
Noemi
Ok thanks. I'm working on our nursery with a similar color palette and we just chose a wall color, we are going with planetary silver by behr. Its a bit more greyish in color, hopefully it looks great once up on the whole room.

I used Benjamin Moore's Gray Owl. I would highly suggest getting a paint sample! My room made it appear MORE blue than I initially thought it would 🙂
Noemi
What wall color did you use?
