Check out this post on a craft room makeover reveal. I’m so excited to be sharing with you the first phase of our craft room makeover reveal!

We have a little loft area on our second floor that I’ve converted into our little craft room. With four kids, you can bet that this room gets used a lot. Our plan is to renovate this entire room for a few reasons I’ll share below. We’re dividing the renovation into three phases – removing cabinetry and new coat of paint, adding in new cabinetry doors and lastly flooring.

Here’s an image of the room from the original MLS listing before I drug in my gazillion tubs of crafting supplies and equipment!

Originally, the room had dark cabinetry. While it was gorgeous and matched the cabinetry downstairs in our kitchen, it didn’t fit with my light and airy vibe that I was looking for. It also took a lot of room in an already small space. Our kids were also not tall enough to use it, so I used it more of a standing table space where I kept things out of reach. While it was great for that, it wasn’t great for collaborating with my kids on their projects.

The other problem with the desk area was that it did not have an outlet for my computer and other electronics. We would have to cut out holes in the wood laminate, and the flow of the room just didn’t work for us.

Our main goal for the room: it needed to be bright to get our creative juices flowing!

Over one weekend, we took down all of the cabinetry (the plan is to re-purpose it as Ryan’s woodworking table in the basement) and the wire shelving on the wall that we had added a few months ago. The wire shelving is going to be replaced with closed cabinetry. I didn’t like the feel of having all of the supplies open and viewable. When I work, I need a clean working space and having the supplies in sight made it feel very cluttered.

Our goal was to make this project as easy and quick as possible, and it turned out even better than we imagined. We used Behr MARQUEE® in Natural Gray because we wanted a neutral color and a product that would require us to only do one coat.

You guys know that I don’t share anything on the blog that I don’t absolutely love or wouldn’t use ourselves. So I wanted to share with you that BEHR MARQUEE® hit the mark.

This is the same line that we used in Ansley and Aubrey’s room when we painted stripes on their wall in BEHR MARQUEE Antique Lavender.

While it did say we didn’t need primer, Ryan primed anyway because we had to patch a few holes from the wire shelving. The coverage on the paint was amazing. Ryan even commented on how thick and smooth the paint was. We literally only needed one coat of BEHR Natural Gray. Look how airy the paint looks in this room!

After painting, we put up the bare frames of the new cabinetry that we newly purchased. We didn’t add the doors yet because we are in processing of DIY’ing them (using beadboard wainscoting and trim wood for the door and painting them white). What’s nice about not having the cabinet doors up initially is that I can add all of my supplies and see where they are at without the doors in the way yet! Here’s how I have all of my supplies organized so far.

So Phase 1 of the project is complete! I just love how bright the room feels now with a new coat of paint and lighter cabinetry color!

The next step is getting the flooring completed and then adding doors to hide the supplies.

What do you guys think? Have you tried the BEHR MARQUEE line at Home Depot? If not, check out the BEHR MARQUEE® line and out on Pinterest [HERE], Twitter [HERE] and Facebook [HERE] and the Behr MARQUEE paint collection [HERE] for inspiration!
