Are you looking for the best splash parks for your toddler in Kansas City? As a Kansas City native, I'm sharing some of my favorite locations around town.
Two years ago, we took my oldest to "swim lessons", and we found out the hard way that we were really paying $40 for someone to teach our then one year old how to blow bubbles in the water. With our youngest, we're trying something different: getting her into little water activities to get her comfortable and excited about the water, and then trying swimming lessons.
During our tour of the city for the best water parks/pools, these are the ones that I came up with. This might not be the top five for everyone, but these are the ones that I've heard of this year (2014). Feel free to chime in if you think of any others that I'm missing on this list! I'm sure there are a ton of Overland Park community pools I've missed, so feel free to comment. Below, I've listed experiences with my kids this summer, who were 20 months and 3 years old. This is in order from smallest to biggest.
Gladstone Community Center
They have an awesome leisure pool for kids with a little pirate ship with a slide and a few water spouts. One of our close friends's kiddo had her birthday party here. Both girls had a blast! Its a lot smaller than what Summit Waves has, but its indoors! So in the spring when you are itching to go outside, yet the water is too cold, this is the place to be.
- Kids under 3 are free
- Everyone else: $6
- My verdict: thumbs up
Summit Waves
Between 8:30 and 10:00, they have kid play hours where there's reduced admission for water playground for kids under the age of 10. They have a pretty big play area that kept my kids pretty busy! It is outdoors and there is not a lot of shade, but who needs shade when you are in a water park? Okay, most parents do. So that's the only downside.
- Kids under 3 are free
- Everyone else: $7 as a resident of Lee's Summit, $10 as a non-resident
- My verdict: thumbs up
CoCo Key Water Resort
There is so much for kids to do here! My girls had a blast! Granted, the big area with the huge flipping bucket may have scared them, but other than that - they ran around playing with all the water spouts and trinkets they had set up. Lots of things for them to do!
- Kids under 2 are free
- Everyone else: $18
Great Wolfe Lodge
I personally have not been here, but I've heard great things about the water park. I know a lot of our friends with kids do staycation over the weekend and have a blast. I believe that they do not have any "ticket only" admission, so you would have to book a hotel stay in order to enter their waterpark.
- When I last checked for 2 kids and 2 adults, cheapest rates in July were $200.
Oceans of Fun
I have not been this side of 'Fun yet! I'm kind of excited to go and check out both parks with the kids in tow!
- Kids under 2 are free
- JR/SR (kids older than 3 that are under 48 inches or seniors 62 and older): $31.99
- Everyone else: $44.99
Schlitterbahn
I know this place exists, but that's about it. I haven't heard good or bad things. Anyone been here and have thoughts?
Any other fun water parks we should add to this list?
