When we moved into our home, one of the very first rooms we painted and furnished was Ansley’s room. Grandma helped us get Ansley’s room painted when we initially moved in (thank you!!). After painting, we got her furniture delivered! And that was the catalyst for me to start figuring out how I would decorate the room.
The biggest thing we did was change out the lighting. I think it makes a huge statement. I wanted the light to say “this is a princesses room”. So I purchased a faux chandelier in their room. And it’s lasted into their teens!
Funny story about this chandelier: when the chandelier was shipped, I had to put it together. Each crystal was carefully and securely wrapped. The crystals were to be attached together by these small rings. With the directions, it was easy peasy. While unpacking the main portion, I found a rather weird grey chicken wire wrapped around all the way through that I thought just held the structure together. It didn’t have a plug at the end. So I just snipped it off.
While Ryan was getting ready to put the chandelier, he asked me, “What happened to the ground wire?” I paused and didn’t answer for five minutes. Needless to say, “conversation” and head shaking ensued after I explained to him what had happened. It was my fault for not reading all of the directions.
Anyway, two years later, Ansley’s room still really isn’t fully decorated. I knew I wanted a lavender, grey, white theme, but I was very indecisive when it came to making figuring out what the statement piece above her headboard would be. So I took to Facebook to ask for advice for what to do to this room:
Ideas were given that ranged from large statement pieces to creating a bed crown that had tulle. And then I got the most awesome advice of all: paint vertical stripes in alternating colors of grey and lavender! I’m super excited about the idea and that’s what I’ve finally settled on.
Since Ryan won’t let me paint (long story), and the fact that he is a huge procrastinator, he has finally made an agreement with me (after some tears) that I could only give him one “painting” job on his honey do list every six months. I’m excited that January is rolling around 🙂
After he gets that done, I’ve gotten so much great inspiration from Pottery Barn Kids that I think I’m FINALLY ready to decorate all over! (Admission: I secretly keep all of my Pottery Barn catalogs and look at them for inspiration. Their styles are pretty timeless, so they never really go out of style!)
