Lainey and Cassie threw one of my college friends’ a surprise adoption party! Jayme and Mark – the ultimate couple. They are the nicest and most kind hearted people you will ever meet. They are well deserving of all the great and amazing things that have and will happen to them.
Jayme and Mark are adopting an 8 year old girl and 5 year old boy from Ethiopia. They are going through a very arduous process – and documenting it via Jayme’s blog called “Hand in Hand“. She is an AMAZING writer (far better than my ramblings here), and her ability to chronicle their experience will no doubt help others going through the same process.
This surprise party was a success! Lainey’s ability to plan and detail helped make the surpise an actual surprise. If I had to plan a surpise party, I would have told people just to park wherever when they got to my house. Nope, Lainey detailed (with a map) exactly where to enter her neighborhood and where to park. (I snooped in her pantry, and her spices were all nice and neat – I think they were alphabetized too.) She was a great hostess with her amazing planning abilities.
A few years ago, I tried to plan Ryan a surprise birthday party at a bowling alley (one of his hobbies at the time), and I ended up spilling the beans to him. We still had the bowling birthday party, but it wasn’t much of a surpise.
As I was watching them open gifts, I realized that showers are typically thrown for women, and not men. So men, naturally, never get to really be apart of the gift receiving. I think Mark was enjoying every bit of opening gifts 🙂
P.S. If Hallmark is reading this, I would like your company to know that getting an appropriate “Adoption Shower” card is very difficult. Every store I went to had NO appropriate card. I hope that Hallmark takes note.
Here are some of the photos from the shower:
