We’ve been trying to teach our girls all about safety! With this being National Fire Prevention Week, we thought it was the perfect time to teach them about fire safety through actionable things that they could see us doing around the house. We’ve been incorporating how to stay safe around our house with the girls.
A few things we taught them were:
- How to respond when they hear the smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector: We told them to get low and make sure that they find their way out of the house.
- Planning their escape routes: We went to each of their rooms and showed them how they could “run really fast” if they smelled smoke or saw a fire. They loved showing how fast they could run and escape!
- Staying away from matches and lighters: We taught them what they are used for, how hot they can get, as well as how dangerous they are and why they should never play with them.
- How to Interact with First Responders: We explained to them that firefighters, police and EMTs are normal people just like Mommy and Daddy. We taught them how to respond to their instructions without arguing, hesitating or looking for parental backup.
What’s even more awesome is that SCHOOL is teaching her all about fire fighters and what First Responders do! Check out this awesome artwork they did in class:
Energizer®, through a partnership with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), is spreading awareness to keep families safe through the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program. Check out their campaign to learn about how to teach fire safety to kids through videos, safety tips, and kids activities to help spread awareness and ensure everyone is prepared when the unpredictable happens!
Now is also a great time to stock up on batteries, including 9V, AA, and AAA! As a weekend warrior photographer as well as a mom, I always trust Energizer® for the power when I need it most!
