This is my third week back to work from maternity leave! While I'm saddened that I don't get to spend more time with my babe, its kind of nice being able to hear myself think sometimes 🙂
I just changed roles at work back to a previous campus that I worked at a few years ago. This means that I now have a 45 minute commute, which I was used to for the last 7 years. Who knew that I would actually ENJOY my almost hour drive - from golden silence, to thinking, to podcasts - its amazing!
Now that I'm back into the swing of things, this also means that we are officially putting chubby wubs on a schedule. Which means...wait for it...moving him into his own room!
You would think by now as a mom of three, I have this down to a science. Nope.
One thing I am super excited about for this transition is finally using our new video baby monitor called Keera 2 Camera Video Monitor which is a touch panel monitor that pans, tilts and zooms!
During maternity leave, I'll be honest, baby slept in our room with us the whole time we had the monitor. Now that I'm going to actually need a full night's sleep in order to function at work, I've been able to use all the awesome features of the Keera Baby Video Monitor. You can read all the specifications of the monitor here.
Let me just admit that while I raised two girls without a video monitor (just audio), having a VIDEO monitor is AMAZING. With the audio monitor, I was always second guessing what was going on and having to go back into the room to double check. The Keera monitor provides me more comfort in knowing what's going on with a beautiful visual (in color!) of baby.
On the flip side, transferring him into his own room also means another milestone met as well as another moment in the scrapbook. I'm sad. (I will admit that I sometimes take him downstairs to sleep between us just so I CAN. I'll lie to Ryan saying that he was fussy...when it was really just me wanting to snuggle up with him.)
When I put Ryan in charge of watching the monitor, he said, "I guess this is what its like raising kids in the 21st century." He's so witty (sarcasm).
My favorite things about this monitor:
- Pan and Tilt features
- Clear picture
- NIGHT VISION!! WHAT?! YES!!
- Ability to zoom in on the picture to see more details
- Color changing ring to tell me if chubby wubs is just talking or if he's crying/screaming
- Talking to baby (explanation in a minute)
- Lullaby music
I will FULLY admit with each additional child, I'm getting worse at taking photos! With the Keera monitor, it has the ability to not only record the video, but also takes pictures of my chubby wubs when I don't have my phone or DSLR around!
When we set it up, the user screen was intuitive and simple. Truth be told, I did have to look at the manual to make sure I knew what the settings were. Learn from my mistake, note that the antenna on the receiver is SUPER important. Don't forget to lift it up especially if you have a two story! This will save you tons of frustration (i.e. this mom should have looked at the "getting started" card).
The Keera video baby monitor has the ability to talk to your child. I know what you are thinking. Same here - it reminded me of the fairly recent news story about how a guy hacked into a family's wireless monitor system. Scary, right? Well, with the Keera, it is closed circuit, so its not something you can hack into, which is a double plus. At first, I thought the ability to talk to your child was kind of creepy if I'm being honest. However, I got additional monitors for the girls, we set it up and showed them that they could hear us and talk to us. They giggled. Last night the monitor was put to the test. Ans woke up crying, I got on the monitor and told her to go back to sleep and a few consoling words. Low and behold, she went back to sleep! It saved me a trip upstairs!
In addition, I plan on using this when they are a bit older so that I can spy on them. Yep.
I just wanted to elaborate on the night vision. The night vision on this thing is awesome. ClearVu® technology is what this monitor uses and states that you can get digital signal from up to 750 feet away. While I'm only a floor away, I can see my bugs clearly at night. Its amazing!!
Also, as our family grows, and when I win the battle of trying for a fourth, the Keera monitor’s is expandable up to a total of four cameras to view from one monitor!
I feel like with a video monitor, I have more of a reassurance knowing that baby is okay because I have the visual on the monitor, which allows me to do some of my DIY projects and occassionally glancing at the monitor to make sure he's okay.

Being a mom keeps us busy! What do you wish you could do more of?
