I love this season. In the midst of the craziness of gift giving and family get togethers, the point of the holidays is to bring families together. This year, my girls are old enough to understand the true meaning of the season, which includes giving back to those that are in need. We're teaching them how to "give it forward" to other families.

In this same spirit of the holidays, if you’ve been shopping at Walmart this holiday season, you may have noticed that Coca-Cola is giving back in a big way.

Coca-Cola® is working with One Warm Coat® to provide a layer of love for half a million people. For their 2016 holiday program, “Layer On Love,” Coca-Cola at Walmart has partnered with One Warm Coat — an organization whose mission is to provide anyone in need with a warm coat free of charge — to help give half a million coats. Learn more about One Warm Coat® on Coke.com/LayerOnLove.

Today, I'm sharing how my family is giving back to others as well as helping to multiply this giving by encouraging others to do the same!

With inspiration from Coca-Cola® and One Warm Coat®, our family is creating a holiday blessing package for one family.

I explained to my girls that sometimes, families don't just need toys. They need the basic necessities of life. Here are a few items to consider when packaging your holiday blessing care package.

Checklist for Holiday Blessing Care Package

    Toiletries:
All purpose wipes (baby wipes, body wipes)
    Menstrual pads and/or tampons
    Razors and shaving gel
    Lip balm
    Lotion
    Shampoo and conditioner
    Toothbrush and toothpaste
    Cotton swabs

    Miscellaneous:
    Meal gift cards
    Heat packet
    Personal note of encouragement
    First aid kit

    Clothing:
    Gloves and mittens
    Scarves
    Coats
    Socks
    Underwear

    Food and Drink:
    Beef jerky
    trail mix
    Instant Oatmeal packges
    Hot chocolate packets
    Snack bars
    Mints

    1. I would find a box, bag or purse to fit all of the products in.

    2. Make sure it all fits in the package and store them neatly.

Add a personal note of encouragement!

    3. Give it to a local church, school or someone in need.

No person or gift amount is ever too small to help! If it helps ONE person, you've made a significant impact in someone's life. Teach your littles, and they will take that lesson and multiply it ten fold as they get older.

With this in mind, don't forget to donate to One Warm Coat® on Coke.com/LayerOnLove, as we could collectively help to put a coat on one million people in need this winter.
