Summer Grilling with Kingsford Charcoal from Home Depot

Easy Weeknight Dinners· Recipes

Summer is here, and what better way to celebrate than to fire up the grill! A few years ago, Ryan and I finally decided that our small one person grill wasn’t going to cut it anymore. We decided to buy a grill. In the end, we landed on one that could do both propane and charcoal.

For the grill snob, I know that’s not the best. But when you a working parent of some crazy kids, sometimes that propane comes in handy. However, I much prefer the taste of food that has been cooked over charcoal! It just brings me back to the fun days of summer floating and camping!

This past Sunday, I had hot wings on the menu – but we were out of charcoal and lighter fluid. Remember a few months back what we told you our mid-Sunday morning ritual was? The girls know this place by heart now.

Anyway, we headed over to our nearest The Home Depot store for some DIY material and stocked up some Kingsford’s Original Twinpack charcoal.

Obviously, our family of five probably will not be able to use it all BUT it is going to come in handy when we have our three way birthday party in August!

Between 6/18 and 6/21, The Home Depot has Kingsford Charcoal at almost half off! So stock up for those summer time celebrations (e.g. Father’s Day, birthdays, Independence Day – you get the picture)! You can find the Kingsford’s Original Twinpack in the grilling aisle!

As for my recipe “tried and true” recipe for hot wings, this is what you’ll need:

  • 5 lbs of chicken wings
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil (not pictured)
  • Stick of butter
  • 6 ounces of hot sauce (shown is a 12 ounce, but I only used half of it)
  • 4 tablespoons of chopped parsley
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • optional: ranch or blue cheese dressing (not pictured)

If you have a garden with parsley and garlic, pick it like we did!

Mince your parsley and garlic. Set aside.

On a different cutting board, cut your wings into wings and drum pieces. Throw away the wingette (or save it to make chicken broth in the future).

In a bowl or plastic bag, pour the olive oil as well as garlic on the wings and drum pieces. Marinade for at least 10 minutes.

Start your Kingsford charcoal and wait until its ready.

When the charcoal is ready, put your wings and drums on. Flip the wings every 5 minutes for a total of 20 minutes.

While you are waiting for the wings to finish, put a pot or pan on medium. Place the hot sauce, butter, and garlic into the pan. Wait for the butter to melt and take the pan off of the stove.

Take your wings off of the grill.

Options: You can dip the wings in the hot sauce and regrill them for another 5 minutes OR use the hot sauce as dipping sauce (which I prefer).

EAT! It is OH SO GOOD!

That is suc a cool grill! I really didn’t know they had grills where you could do both propane and charcoal. I’ve been thinking of buying a new charcoal grill since we love the flavor, but this is a cool idea too! Those wings look delicious! #client
