Instructions on how to make DIY baby burp cloths that are so easy, you can do it in just a few minutes!
We just got a new store called Buy Buy Baby in the Kansas City metro area! Whoo hoo! For those that don’t know what Buy Buy Baby is, its a store similar to Babies R Us, but BETTER. There’s better quality, better selection, and…wait for it….you can use Bed Bath and Beyond coupons there! So when you get those $5 off of a $15 purchase coupons – those are worth their weight in gold!
Anyway, I went there to buy burp cloths…which I thought would be pretty inexpensive. I thought wrong – it was $12.99 for a pack of 3 burp cloths. Really?? Now, I know I could use a regular towel and not have to waste money on something like this – but of course, I want something “cute” (yes, something cute that she would spit up on…I realize that its not logical). Anyway, I wanted to figure out how to do it cheaper. Voila – internet search landed me to this blog link on Sew She Sews. Go there for the instructions on how to make this. Here are some tips as you complete this project:
All you’ll need is:
- a pack of cloth diapers. Make sure you get the small ones – I made the mistake of getting the big ones and the burp clothes do not fit as well on my shoulder
- cute fabric. The site says flannel to keep it from moving off your shoulder. I just found some cute fabric that was non-flannel and it works fine.
- straight pins.
- chopsticks or something pointy to push corners.
Here are some examples on how mine turned out – I’m by no means a perfectionist (my husband tends to say to me, “Why do something when you’re not going to right?” And I say back, “Because time is precious – and I just need to get it done.”)
One of the instructions says to sew down the seam of the cloth diaper – and that gave me a chance to play with some of the “fancy” settings on my sewing machine – the Baby Lock 6000. I used the duck setting. Check it out! Enjoy the tutorial link (here it is again).
