Our family was having our usual Sunday dinner. We somehow got on the topic of our lawn (which is a little less than an acre).
His dad asks, "How are you mowing your lawn?"
Ryan gives me a look, then looks down as his plate. He gives a smirk, then says, "Like everything else. We hired someone."
From that second, I knew the secret I told Ryan to swear to keep was going to not be a secret anymore.
"Seng also has someone come to the house and clean every two weeks."
The cat was now out of the bag. That was my confession.
Your question is probably why did I want to keep it a secret?
1. I'm embarrassed. I don't like the fact that people may "think" or "believe" that I can't handle everything myself.
2. This is so shallow, I know. But, I want to keep up the facade that I'm super mom.
3. I didn't want it to come off bragging, because I'm really not. Its not like we can afford it anyway with two kids in daycare 🙂
Yes, we hire someone to mow our lawn. Yes, we hire someone clean every nook and cranny of our house.
How did we get to this point?
Lawn. Ryan kept talking about missing his zero turn mower that we had out in the boonies. I was not down with spending an extra $7,000 on a mower. Not happening. Although we realize that the monthly services might pay for it in the long run, we'd rather not plunk that much money down right now. I mean, we still don't have furniture in the living room!
Cleaning Service. The girls are terrors to our house. I'm pretty sure when the cleaning service comes to our house, they are probably thinking, "What in the heck is this gooey, sticky stuff stuck to the hardwoods?" (Answer: melted fruit snacks).
The real reason why is: time. With our long commutes, we hardly have time as it is on the week days to get anything done that needs to be done. On the weekends, we would prefer using our free time pursuing our hobbies (e.g. keeping our sanity) instead of cleaning and mowing.
To me, that money is worth it because it buys me "time", which is a commodity at this point.
Could we be using it to pay down our mortgage? Probably. But for right now, you better believe that to Ryan, its money well spent if he has a happy wifey.
As always, ending this blog with a picture of the girls. We visited Deanna Rose Farm in Overland Park. They loved it!!
