How long have you been doing photography?
I’ve been capturing memories for others since 2009. I have been trained through courses and workshops and have spent many hours perfecting and refining my skills over the years. When I first began Sengerson Photography, I would have never dreamed the images I create would mean so much to so many of my clients.
When a mother or a bride lets me know how delighted they are that I have documented their momentous occassion . . . its truly magical.
When you hire me as your professional photographer, you are guaranteeing a level of expertise and talent that will ensure your priceless milestones are captured for eternity for the first time without worry.
You can find more about my photography journey here.
Where are you based out of?
I’m in a little suburb east of Kansas City but would love the opportunity to come to you! I shoot often within a one hour radius from the heart of Kansas City.
Where is your studio located?
While I do consider myself a natural light photographer, I do have a home studio in Pleasant Hill, Missouri that is best suited for portraits of newborns and children under 4 years old. I primarily enjoy shooting outdoors or at my clients’ homes where everyone is in their natural environment.
How long are the sessions?
Lifestyle family and newborn sessions are typically around 90 minutes, which provides ample time for an amazing session with various backdrops. If we are capturing children under three, the average session lasts 45 minutes depending on the cooperation of your children.
Newborn posed sessions are the exception, lasting up to 2.5 hours to get them in the sleepy, dreamy phase.
When can I expect to see the images?
After a portrait session, it normally takes five days for me to send you around two photos for a quick preview and post some of those on my blog. Then, I would spend roughly two weeks to carefully select and post-process the photos from the session.
After a wedding, it normally takes me a few weeks to cull through the images. Roughly a week and a half to carefully select and post-process the images from the wedding. It typically is delivered within 6 weeks.
What exactly are you editing?
All of the images start in a RAW file format. What does this mean for you? In simple terms, there is a bit of necessary processing every image has to undergo before it is in a format suitable for printing. This first image is the ‘original’ – which is the (almost) straight from camera file – the only processing done here was a straight conversion from a RAW (.cr2) file to a printable (.jpg) file.
Sometimes, the images come out too blue, too soft, and too muted down – all of these issues will be fixed before I create our ‘proofs’ – you will never see this version. In the proofing stage, I clean up the colors, balance the contrast and saturation, and usually add a little bit of sharpening. Every image you receive will exist in this color enhanced ‘proof’ stage.
How much retouching do you do?
I tend to stay on the less-is-more side of the retouching scale. Bottom line: I want you to recognize yourself in the work.
The proofs only address the most major issues and don’t cross over into wrinkle removal and so forth. In the artistic highlights I often do very minor blemish removal, but never wrinkle removal, weight subtractions, eye and teeth enhancements, etc. I do offer those services for a small fee, however, when requested by a client.
Do I get all of the images that you shoot?
The last step in preparing your images is to take the best of the best from the shoot (as determined by yours truly) and to really take those images to the next level. These special few (typically 50-75 images per session and 100 or so from weddings) make up the Artistic Highlights. This third phase is where I really get to party and is the most time-consuming (but totally worthwhile!) part of my editing process. In the wedding package offered, 50 hours of creative post-production is provided to enhance your photos.
