Guess what photographers?!! Wedding season is coming up!!
I’ve been on the hunt for some fashionable, yet comfortable shoes for this upcoming wedding season. Since most of my summer and fall weekends are almost nearly booked with shoots this year, my feet are definitely going to need some TLC. I’m going to be on my feet – A LOT. So comfortable shoes are definitely a MUST.
Last year, after hearing rave reviews about Toms, I got a pair of their black canvas classics. I must admit, I do love my Toms because they are SOO comfortable. But here’s the BUT. In my humble opinion, they do not go with any of my outfits. At all. They seriously remind me of Grandma shoes.
However, Toms do look super cute on my KIDS – pink sparkles and all. Obviously, I would never be able to pull off pink sparkles.
Then I heard people talking about ballerina flats called Tieks. The big buzz about them was the price. They were Oprah-approved flats that cost $175. But $175!!! That reminded me of when I was in middle school, and the trend was for the cool kids to get Doc Martens. I remember always wanting a pair, until I realized they were $150 – and that I would never convince my parents in getting me a pair.
Anyway, I seriously needed to invest in some shoes for this wedding season that would make me look less dorky while being comfy. The catalyst to my purchase was when I got a gift card to the Tieks online store as a part of my swag bag at Go Blog Social. It made the purchase of the matte black Tieks a little easier to swallow, but I still had to pay a hefty portion for flats. Before the splurge, I had to read a few articles about them to make sure that they were going to be worth it. Basically, all the reviews said that if you wear a half size, don’t bother. I wear a 7.5 normally. So I decided against all advice, and ordered the size 8 (they only have whole sizes).
What’s the verdict? Let’s start the review:
The first day wearing them, my left toe felt super tight. I thought it was my toe nail, so I cut it super short. I kept wearing them throughout the house, hoping that it would wear them in.
The next day, I tried wearing my Tieks during a family photoshoot in the woods for 3 hours. They were still a little tight, but more comfortable.
On the third day, I decided to wear them to my day job. They felt more worn in and more comfortable. During lunch, I usually work out. When I looked in my bag, I realized that I FORGOT MY SHOES!! Having not worked out the last three days, I HAD to work out. So guess what? I worked out in them. True story:
I mainly stayed on the elliptical, and I figured I’d be in horrific pain afterwards. Turned out, my feet were fine!
On the fourth day, no pain! I think this was because the shoes are made of real leather! So, in short, give your Tieks a few days (even though you may be worried that you can’t return them after you wear them). It took me a full four days, but I grew to love them 🙂
P.S. The packaging is super pretty and awesome. Wondering if they could have knocked down the packaging so that the price was a little more reasonable. Just sayin’ Gavrieli!
Update: I’ve worn these on about 30 weddings (interchanged with my gold metallic ones), let me just say: my feet have thanked me! For those brides out there looking for some comfy flats you can change into in-between photos, check out my review here.
